A Contemporary Processional

Wedding March and Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin are two of the most popular songs played as the wedding party walks down the aisle. However, what happens when the bride doesn’t want a traditional wedding? Well, this happens. But, if dancing down the aisle is not what you are looking to do and you don’t want traditional music played either then maybe you should incorporate contemporary music into your processional. Although you may not initially think of a contemporary song as one that can play at a wedding, with the right arrangement and a slower tempo for some, they can all work.

Below is a list of some of my favorite contemporary processional songs:

  1. Bleed To Love Her – Fleedwood Mac
  2. Fearless – Taylor Swift
  3. If I Should Fall Behind – Bruce Springsteen
  4. I’m Yours – Jason Mraz
  5. I Run to You – Lady Antebellum
  6. Just the Way You Are – Bruno Mars
  7. Love Story – Taylor Swift
  8. Lucky (feat. Colbie Caillat) – Jason Mraz
  9. Marry Me – Train
  10. Mine – Taylor Swift
  11. Stolen – Dashboard Confessional
  12. The World Is Ours Tonight – Gloriana
  13. Today Was a Fairytale – Taylor Swift
  14. Two Is Better Than One (feat. Taylor Swift) – Boys Like Girls

But for those of you who would like to dance down the aisle, try I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas.

Taylor Swift appears a lot on this list, but it is because her songs can be so easily incorporated into a wedding. By combining Love Story together with Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, composer Jon Schmidt created one of the best arrangements I have ever heard. It just happens to be perfect for both a processional and a recessional.

Whether contemporary or traditional music plays, the only thing certain about a wedding processional is the bride will ascend down the aisle to meet her waiting groom. Playing contemporary music might just enhance the “wow” factor. What will play at your wedding?
