Carly is Inspired!

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve posted anything on Going to the Chapel, but it’s because I’ve moved to a new blog! I started Going to the Chapel as an intern with Brides.com as a way to earn credits for my internship while expanding my knowledge of the wedding industry. To be honest, I also really needed a creative outlet. I’ve loved creating a community and watching it grow to have enough views to fill Lincoln Financial Field on the night of a concert. Mind. Blown. I’ve also loved connecting with area vendors – some of which have become fast friends – and being able to confidently talk about how to plan a wedding.

But I started to crave having a space where I could talk about the other things that inspire me. I love weddings, I really do, but I also love fashion, design, and living a life that I will want to talk about and share with others when I’m 80.

Inspiration board via Carly is Inspired

In December of 2012, I took the leap and purchased a domain. I collected inspiration. I attended Making Things Happen, which helped me get to the core of who I am. And then there was the day I launched my new blog, Carly is Inspired. It’s filled with pink, bows, weddings, and tons of design inspiration. Won’t you visit me in my new space? I promise it will be worth it!

To everyone who has read Going to the Chapel, thank you. Without you, I would have never experienced all that I have and all that I hope to continue to do.

PS: There’s a giveaway happening right now over on Carly is Inspired, and it ends tonight at 11:59 PM!

Inspiration Board: Wild for Wildflowers

Hello again, readers! Y’all, I let life take over a little bit, and I just got busy. I sincerely apologize for my (much longer than anticipated) break from blogging. However, I’ve missed writing about weddings, so I’m back and ready to go yet again.

What have I been up to you ask? Well, I was invited to be involved in a recent photo shoot. It was one of the best and most fun experiences I’ve ever had, and I can’t wait to share more (soon, very soon). With that said, one of my favorite elements of our photo shoot was how we incorporated wildflowers (read: fell completely in love with this detail). I absolutely love the idea of planning a bridal shower or wedding inspired by wildflowers because of the brilliant colors they offer.  As a result, I thought an inspiration board was in order centered around wildflowers no less.

And the photo from our shoot of the bouquets (plus two goofy girls – me & Sarah from Dodeline Design) that inspired this week’s board…

Is anyone else in love with wildflowers? I think they are so perfect for the summer, which just happens to start today. I hope you enjoy the longest day of the year!

Going to the Chapel Adventures to D.C.

I happened to mention last week that I was going on an adventure to Washington, D.C. for the weekend. I was so excited for my trip for a couple of reasons, but one of them was because I hadn’t been to D.C. in over two years. It’s one of my favorite places to visit for a couple of reasons: there is so much to do and see…for free (!!!); the Metro is awesome; D.C. is a quick drive from Philly, which allows you to get to doing rather than driving; no matter how many times I visit, I always end up doing something unexpected and new.

I was visiting my friend who lives in Silver Spring, MD, and right when I drove into town, I was greeted by the Discovery Communications building. As a former communications major and journalism degree holder, I was completely excited. As in saying, “WHOA!” out loud to myself in my car. My weekend only got better when we happened to visit Bethesda for lunch and shopping. I have been dreaming of visiting Georgetown Cupcake for SO long, and guess what’s in Bethesda? The best, most decadent cupcake I have ever had in my life. This sounds like a complete exaggeration, but it’s not. My Chocolate^3 cupcake from Georgetown Cupcake Bethesda was heaven.

After completing my life goal of visiting Georgetown Cupcake (again, not joking), I was off to check another goal off of my list: attend my first Phillies game. I was a little bummed that I wasn’t seeing my first game at Citizens Bank Park, but I was stoked nonetheless. And I realized that Phillies games are fun, y’all! I loved cheering on awesome plays and watching homeruns being hit up into the stands. However, when the opposing team ties the game in the eighth inning, I get slightly completely stressed. I plan to attend more games in the future where hopefully my hometown team will win.

Before I headed home on Saturday, my friend and I had planned to take part in the Around the World Embassy Tour. I had never seen Embassy Row before, so viewing the architecture of the buildings, let alone being able to walk inside, was awesome. The embassies we were able to visit were fairly spread out, and the ones we didn’t get to were even further away (read: taking the Metro = completely necessary). We decided beforehand that we wanted to start our day at the Embassy of Australia and work our way around from there. Each embassy had their culture on display with many offering food and drink tastings as well as examples of their country’s art and music. My favorite embassy was Botswana because the Ambassador actually spoke to us about her country, and she spoke with such passion! Oh, and this tour goes back to one of my favorite aspects about D.C: it was completely free. (Here is additional info about the Passport to DC program, which continues for the entire month of May.)

{Embassies from top to bottom: Australia, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, Rwanda, Botswana, & the Bahamas}

I had a whirlwind of a weekend, and I truly enjoyed everything that I was able to experience in such a short amount of time. If you are thinking about going on a quick getaway with your family, friends, or your beau, consider making the trip to D.C. Have you ever been? Let me know in the comments!

Weekly Wedding Favorites

I have to say this has been one of my favorite weeks in a while. I realized that there are certain things that I just love doing, and that I should go after them with all.that.I.have. That certain thing? It’s writing. I really love it, and hearing that other people like and enjoy what I have to say brings me pure joy. A few of my favorite reasons why this week has been awesome…

Favorite Guest Post:

To start off the week, I was the guest blogger on Dodeline Design’s blog! I had a blast writing my post, which was all about Philadelphia. I named my top five things to do in the city (which proved to be difficult!), and I included many personal photos snapped during a couple of my adventures. Check it out right here.

Favorite Registry Finds:

I love wandering through Anthropologie’s Philly flagship store, or any of the brand’s stores for that matter. I am always able to pick out a couple of favorite decor items when I visit, so I thought I would pull together items to add to your registry or purchase as a surprise add-on to a gift for the bride and groom. One of my favorite items that I happened upon is this book  because it would be the perfect gift for a bride who has just announced that she’s engaged.

Favorite Detail:

I had to look closely at this detail when I saw it on Style Me Pretty’s Pinterest page. Those pages are folded to form “I Do.” That takes my folding down the pages of my calendar to count down to summer school activity to a completely different (and way awesome) level. I would love to see something like this on a welcome table at a wedding. See more of the details from the couple’s wedding on Style Me Pretty here.

Favorite Activity:

Although dancing and mingling with guests will keep many completely occupied and having fun for hours, if you happen to be hosting an outdoor wedding, I love the idea of adding in a couple of outdoor games. Ping pong is one of my top picks because it’s fun for kids to play and equally as enjoyable for adults. I love how this couple even added some flair to the table with bunting flags in their wedding’s colors.

Favorite Late Night Snack:

Although I talked all about delicious hometown foods to serve your guests as a late night snack last week (here + here), I just had to include this one from Southern Weddings. S’mores are one of my favorite summertime treats (or anytime really. when there’s chocolate, I’m in), and these look…dare I say…decadent. The couple who served them even went so far as to make homemade marshmellows. With that said, I’ll be right there with you purchasing a bag from the grocery store. : )

I’m going adventuring this weekend, and one of the activities I will be doing is going to my first Phillies game. I’m.SO.excited. Have a great weekend!

Wedding Registry Inspiration: Anthropologie

Every time I see an Anthropologie, I always insist on wandering through the store. Because the brand calls Philadelphia it’s hometown, I was especially excited to adventure to the flagship store. The two photos above are from my adventure. There’s stained glass on the ceiling and part of the store has a beautiful view of Rittenhouse Square. I didn’t snap a photo of the chandelier, but I died!

I have always loved interior design and the details that one can use to fill a room or an entire home. I fall for so many of Anthropologie’s items, especially those for the kitchen, even if I don’t necessarily purchase them. I love the home items that they carry because each has a uniqueness to it that makes it feel as if it’s not something you are going to come across in a traditional department store. And the bright colors don’t hurt either! With these facts in mind, below are some of my favorite Anthropologie finds for your registry or as an added surprise to give to the bride and groom.

{Clockwise from left: Window Pane Lanterns, Handmade Weddings, Desert Rose Frame, Twinkling Luz Vase}

{Clockwise from left: Paisleys Spoon Rest, Monogrammed Mug, Just Picked Recipe Cards, Coloring Tab Measuring Spoons}

Do you have any recent Anthropologie finds that you are loving? Comment below and let me know!

Weekly Wedding Favorites

I cannot believe it’s already the end of April, which means it’s also been just about a year since the Royal Wedding. Best wedding ever? I still think so! I’m sure your wedding will be a great day too, so without further ado my favorites to help you plan your day…

Favorite New Movie:

Scenes from Bridesmaids still make me laugh, and I am really looking forward to seeing The Five Year Engagement because both were produced by the same team. Jason Segel and Emily Blunt seem like the perfect pair (as their characters of course!), and it seems like it’s going to be genuinely funny. Is anyone else looking forward to seeing this movie? It comes out today!

Favorite Ceremony Seating:

I happened to see this seating arrangement as part of a May Day post on Elizabeth Anne Designs this week. I was immediately struck by the seating arrangement because it allows the couple to be surrounded by their friends and family while they say their vows. I think it’s so unique and very intimate.

Favorite Item for a Lounge:

I found these pillows (see them here + here) at The Home Depot last weekend, and for only $13.98 each, I think they would make a great addition to a lounge area at a wedding.  I think both of the above pillows are perfect for a lounge area at your wedding. I love how they have different patterns, but are tied together by their color scheme. Coral and aqua also happen to be two of my favorite colors. There are plenty more patterns and colors to choose from here.

Favorite Midnight Snack:

This week I created another inspiration board, but rather than focusing on mirrors, this board was about my favorite Philly-inspired midnight snacks. Cheesesteaks, milkshakes, and TastyKake Krimpets are at the top of my list. What would you serve?

Favorite Upcoming Event:

The above photo is by Dodeline Design, a graphic design house based in Charleston, SC. In addition to creating pretty stationary and so much more, Sarah is also a blogger. She asked me to guest blog on her site on Monday, and I could not be more excited. I hope you’ll stop by for a visit!

Have a great weekend! Meet me over on Dodeline Design’s blog on Monday? Sounds like a plan.

Weekly Wedding Favorites

After deciding on this week’s favorites, I realized something: I’m pretty excited about life right now. I like this feeling! This week’s favorites include a Rihanna song that might just guarantee a full dance floor, a photo sample from an engagement session that might be my favorite…ever, and an alternative to a sparkler exit. Feeling pumped yet? : )

Favorite Reception Song:

Every time I hear “We Found Love” by Rihanna, I want to dance. Because that is normally the goal at a wedding – get those guests on the floor! – I think this song is one of the best ways to do it. Would you agree?

Favorite Bachelorette Party Idea:

Opening Day was Monday, so we’re into Phillies season, y’all! I’m pumped to go to my first game in just a couple of weeks with one of my best friends. Attending a game is a great alternative for a baseball-loving bride who is not totally into a bar crawl.

Favorite Engagement Photo:

Recently, Jenna Walcott hinted on her Facebook page that she was pretty excited about an engagement session she had the opportunity to shoot in the early morning light with D.C couple Amy & Jack. As a fan of sunrises, I was already looking forward to the photos. However, I could not stop myself from saying “wow” as I was looking through her blog filled with images from the session. Stunning.

Favorite Altar:

Although so many outdoor venues provide beautiful landscapes on their own, I really, really love the altar that surrounded this couple while they said, “I do.” Lining the aisle with vases, mason jars, lanterns, or petals is also another option. However, by creating an awesome floral alter, this couple caused everyone’s eyes to be drawn directly to them.

Favorite Exit:

Who has not fallen in love with a sparkler exit? They’re always so beautiful and create stunning images. However, I adore this couple’s balloon exist. Although they had their guests release balloons to celebrate as they left their ceremony, it’s also a great idea to keep in mind for an afternoon reception.

Feeling pumped yet? : )

Happy weekend, all!
