One of my very favorite aspects of living in the Philly area is the food that helps to define it. A Philadelphia Cheesesteak and TastyKake Krimpets is one of my favorite pairings for lunch or dinner. When my family visits, it’s always one of our first go-to choices during their stay. Because I have such a love for Philly foods, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite Philly options for you to consider serving your guests during your wedding weekend or as a surprise midnight snack.
Cookies + Milkshakes: Ice cream is always a great idea, and cookies are the perfect addition. I love the idea of purchasing ice cream from your favorite shop and using it to mix your milkshakes because it adds an additional touch of hometown flair. The same goes for the cookies: hello, favorite bakery! If you’re looking for suggestions for great ice cream, Newtown’s Goodnoe’s is hands down my favorite ice cream. Ever.
Philly Cheesesteaks: We are famous for these sandwiches. Need more convincing? Let’s be serious, they’re just plain delicious. If you are looking for a twist on this favorite that’s slightly more bite-sized, consider serving Philly cheesesteak sliders.
Water Ice: This treat is one to think about, especially if you are planning an outdoor summer reception. Think about having Rita’s Water Ice (you can buy it in large quantities) or water ice from your favorite local haunt. Water ice also seems to be pretty local to this area, or at least the East Coast, because my cousin who is from the Midwest had never had nor even heard of it prior to her visit to Philly.
Philadelphia Soft Pretzels: When you think of this town, soft pretzels are probably pretty high up there on your Philly association list. My favorite part of this photo is the bag that the pretzels were served in! If you are wondering where to purchase soft pretzels, make sure to check out the Philly Pretzel Factory.
Herr’s Potato Chips: Creating your own order by choosing which chips to include in your variety case is my favorite option from this hometown brand because it comes complete with flavors that I’ve never seen in stores (win!). These are the perfect snack to pair with cheesesteaks if you’re thinking about serving more than one Philly favorite.
TastyKake Krimpets: Although I have seen TastyKakes as far south as Virginia, there’s nothing quite like having Butterscotch Krimpets (or any of TastyKakes sweet snack options!) in the brand’s hometown. Although these are a great idea for a midnight snack, they are also an option to consider giving guests as favors.
Tell me, are you serving a Philly inspired midnight snack at your wedding? As a guest, what would you hope the couple would serve? Be sure to let me know in the comments!
