“You don’t alter a Vera to fit you. You alter yourself to fit Vera.” – Bride Wars
In the film, Bride Wars, best friends Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathway) both become engaged within days of each other. Like most women, their fantasies about their weddings began when they were young girls. They liked to play wedding in Emma’s attic where one friend would be the bride, the other the groom – wedding dress and tuxedo included. After meeting with their dream wedding planner, Marion St. Claire, Liv and Emma go to a wedding dress boutique where Emma first spots a Vera. Tulle cascades down the dress below the sweetheart bodice, and a pink sash pulls the entire look together. It’s perfect, and after some coercing from Emma, it’s Liv’s.
Vera Wang epitomizes weddings, and she has since her wedding collection first launched in 1990. Each of Wang’s dresses showcase silk, tulle, and satin to create iconic dresses that brides dream of wearing. As a result, many women have the same dreams as Liv and Emma: to wear a Vera Wang gown at their wedding. Unfortunately, the dream will never come true for most because Wang’s dresses are priced between $2,000 and $12,000. However, dreams do come true.
February is a big month for brides everywhere because on February 11, 2011, Wang will launch her collection White by Vera Wang exclusively at David’s Bridal. The collection will feature much of the same design ascetic that Wang is known for: gowns with cascading tulle, sweetheart bodices, one-shoulder creations, strapless gowns, and even lace. Unlike her designer collection, White by Vera Wang is affordable with dresses costing between $600-$1,400. Not only will dresses be offered, but the collection also includes headpieces and sashes too. A bride’s entire look can embody Vera Wang.
Each of the 12 dresses from the Spring 2011 collection will be available to order at David’s Bridal stores throughout the U.S. Select stores throughout the country will have sample dresses for brides to try on. As the year progresses, White by Vera Wang will be more readily available as the samples from the collection reach more stores throughout the country and Canada. By the end of the year, the collection will even include bridesmaid dresses.
With this new collection from wedding designer extraordinaire, Vera Wang, more brides’ dreams of wearing a Vera Wang dress as they walk down the aisle will come true. Because as Emma says to Liv in Bride Wars, “Do you think there is something better than Vera Wang? I’m sorry, do they keep that next to the something that is better than chocolate?”
